Relief Package for the victims of Aila Cyclone in May 2009

· Ex-gratia to the tune of Rs. 2 lakh each to the Next of Kin of the deceased persons was sanctioned. Funds amounting to Rs. 360 lakh have been released for 180 death cases.

· Rs. 19.94 lakh have been released for purchase of medicines and baby food for the affected families.

· Prime Minister had accorded approval to the phased provision of cyclone shelters in the three coastal districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur. Rs. 138.65 crore has been earmarked for construction of 200 cyclone shelters through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Rs. 77.60 crore has been released to NDMA. 16 cyclone shelters are complete and the remaining 34 are scheduled to be completed within 2014.
