PM condoles the demise of Saifur Rahman Saheb

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, condoled the tragic demise of Saifur Rahman Saheb. In his message, he said:

"I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic demise of Saifur Rahman Saheb in a car accident today. Saifur Rahman Saheb was one of Bangladesh's most distinguished politicians, who served the country with great distinction not only as an economic administrator but also as a wise elder statesman. He was the moving force behind the modernization of Bangladesh's economy and many of the country's economic successes in the fields of industry, agriculture and finance owe their origin to the far-sighted and bold reforms carried out by him during the early 1990's. Despite his towering achievements, he remained a simple man at heart and was loved and respected by all those who came in contact with him. In his passing away, Bangladesh has lost a true patriot, a thoughtful and visionary leader and a selfless servant of the people. We had a common vision of peace and progress in South Asia and I valued his advice and wise counsel. I have lost an old friend and the region one of its most able leaders.

I convey my deepest condolences to you and to other members of the family and hope that the Almighty will give you the strength to bear this irreparable loss."
