PMO sets up Delivery Monitoring Unit

Prime Minister's Office has set up a Delivery Monitoring Unit in the PMO in pursuance to the announcement made in the President's Address to both Houses of Parliament on 4th June, 2009.

The Delivery Monitoring Unit would review a select number of flagship programmes/initiatives/iconic projects.

The tasks of the Delivery Monitoring Unit will be as follows:

(a) ensuring effective delivery of selected programmes through steady monitoring for outputs stated by the Ministry concerned;

(b) fast-tracking of implementation and ensuring trouble-shooting through periodic reviews;

(c) informing the Prime Minister on a quarterly basis on performance of the selected programmes/initiatives/projects;

(d) ensuring evaluation of impact of the selected programmes/initiatives/projects

(e) ensuring that information on these programmes/initiatives/ projects to the extent possible, is placed in the public domain by the Ministry concerned.

The primary responsibility for implementation of the flagship programmes/initiatives/iconic projects and their appropriate monitoring and follow-up action will remain with that of the Ministries/departments concerned. The Delivery Monitoring Unit will be an oversight mechanism for these select flagship programmes/initiatives/iconic projects with a view to improving monitoring arrangements, delivery of output and transparency.
