PM condoles the passing away of Governor Mathur

The Prime Minister has condoled the passing away of the Governor of Assam Shri Shiv Charan Mathur. The Prime Minister in his condolence message recalled Shri Mathur's participation in the freedom struggle and his contributions as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan and as a Member of Parliament.

The Prime Minister's condolence message is as follows :

"I was deeply grieved to hear of the passing away of Shri Shiv Charan Mathur, Governor of Assam and a very senior political leader of the country. Shri Mathur1s career in politics began early on with his participation in the Quit India movement. He established himself as a prominent leader of the Congress Party in Rajasthan. He served twice as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan and also represented the State in the 3rd and 10th Lok Sabhas. Shri Mathur was a proponent of the Nehruvian model of development and worked with dedication to promote peace and development in Assam. In his passing away, the country has lost an experienced and able politician with a distinguished record of public service."
