PM expresses condolence on the demise of Amita Malik

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has expressed his condolence on the passing away of Ms. Amita Malik. In his message Dr. Singh said- "I am saddened to learn of the passing away of noted columnist and media critic Amita Malik.

Amita Malik was a passionate guardian of the freedom of speech even as her columns marked her as a conscience keeper of the media. She was also a renowned film critic who started her career as a broadcaster with All India Radio several decades ago. She served as a member of the jury of the prestigious Cannes Film festival with distinction and worked hard to present Indian cinema to the world.

In the passing away of Amita Malik the country has lost an engaging and thoughtful journalist whose writings provoked and entertained her readers. I convey my deepest condolences to her friends, admirers and the journalist fraternity."
