The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Sigh, has said that Guru Teg Bahadur's martyrdom day is an occasion to recall the sacrifices made by Guru Teg Bahadur. In a message to the countrymen on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur, the Prime Minister urged the countrymen to strive relentlessly towards achieving unity of mankind, to have equal respect for all religions and to work tirelessly for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden.- the ideals that Guru Teg Bahadur espoused throughout his life.

Dr. Singh hoped that the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur would serve to instil in the people the sense of sacrifice, tolerance and would also strengthen communal harmony.
