The Government of India has granted recognition to two pre-independence struggles in Punjab, the Kuka Namdhari Movement 1871 and the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre, 1919, adding them to the list of the National Freedom Movements for the grant of pension under the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension scheme. The government's decision follows the Punjab Chief Minister's letter to the Prime Minister seeking recognition of the two struggles as national freedom movements for the purpose of grant of pension.
