The Chairman and Members of the National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes met the Prime Minister today and presented a copy of their final report to him. Earlier, the Commission had handed over its final report to the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, on 2nd July, 2008. The Commission was constituted for studying the socio-economic conditions of the Denotified. Nomadic & Semi-nomadic Tribes and to recommend measures for their all round upliftment and began its work in February 2006. The commission had submitted its interim recommendations to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 31st May, 2007.
While presenting the report to the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr.B.S. Renake, briefly apprised him about the recommendations of the Commission. The recommendations broadly relate to the provision for their housing, education, skill development, creation of a permanent Commission like the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, and prevention of harassment of Denotified Nomadic tribes by police.
The Commission Chairman urged the Prime Minister to have the recommendations processed urgently for a final decision and early implementation. The Prime Minister assured the Commission of expeditious action on the recommendations.
