I am deeply grieved to learn of the sad demise of Shri G.M. Banatwala, a prominent figure of our public life.

Shri G.M. Banatwala was an illustrious personality and a respected leader of people. A man with charismatic qualities he was hailed for his role as a teacher, scholar, educationist and representative of people in Lok Sabha. He had the distinction of getting elected to Lok Sabha for seven terms and actively participating in the proceedings of the House. An outstanding leader of the Muslim community, he fought for their rights and sensitized public opinion for understanding their role in the freedom struggle and nation building. In his unfortunate passing away the country has lost a leader of vision and values, dedicated to the cause of the unity of our people and country.
