Prime Minister releases Haksar Memorial volumes

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, released two Haksar Memorial Volumes - "Contemplations on the Human Condition" and "Contributions in Remembrance: A Homage to P.N. Haksar" at a simple function here today. The volumes have brought out by the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh. The former President, Dr. K.R. Narayanan, was also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister described Haksar as a unique personality who reached out to a large number of people even outside the Government who could influence and shape India's economic policy. He said that Haksar would be remembered for his deep commitment to the future of the country, a humane and secular society. He dreamt of an India where promotion of scientific culture would receive the attention it deserved. "Where there are attempts all-round to divide our people on the basis of caste, religion and narrow regional loyalties, we need men and women who would never lose sight of the big picture, of India's role in the world and what each one of us can do or should do to realise the India of our dreams", he added.
