PM's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration for 2006-07 Announced

The PM's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration' for the year 200607 have been announced. The awards will be given away by the Prime Minister on April 21st 2008 on the occasion of third Civil Service Day.

2. The details of the Awards announced for the year 2006-07 are as under:

(a) Category - Individual Initiatives

(1) Trichy Community Policing - Tamil Nadu

(2) Changing Face of Thane and Nagpur cities - Maharashtra

(b) Category - Team Initiatives

(3) Lokvani - an Effort to Empower the Citizen - Uttar Pradesh

(4) Information Technology Audit Initiative - Indian Audit & Accounts Department

(5) Effective Management of Protected Areas - Uttarakhand

(6) Unreserved Ticketing System - M/o Railways

(7) Rajarshi Shahu Sarvangin Karyakram, Zilla Parishad, Kolhapur - Maharashtra

(8) Radical Improvement in Delhi Government School System - Government of NCT of Delhi.

(9) Extraordinary Performance in Emergent Situation of Earthquake in the State of J&K.

(c) Category - Organisations

(10) Innovative Participatory Drinking Water Delivery Approach in Rural Areas of Gujarat by Water & Sanitation Management Organisation (WASMO)

(11) Asraya - Destitute Identification, Rehabilitation and Monitoring Project in Kerala by State Poverty Eradication Mission, Kudumbashree

(12) Electronically Deliverable Services (e-Seva) - Government

of Andhra Pradesh

(13) Child Tracking System in Orissa by Orissa Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA)

3. The award has been instituted to acknowledge the outstanding and exemplary performance by civil servants. The Awards for the year 2006-07 are being given to 13 initiatives spanning better policing through community participation, infrastructure upgradation, systems to improve quality of school education and to check drop-out rate, water management, process re-engineering by leveraging ICT, citizen empowerment and disaster management.

4. Instituted in 2006, the Award comprises a medal, scroll and a cash amount of one lakh rupees in the case of an individual. In the case of a group, the award money will be five lakh rupees subject to a maximum of one lakh rupees per person. For an organization this will be limited to five lakh rupees.
