PM reviews conservation and development of the Yamuna River

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting to discuss issues relating to conservation and development of the Yamuna River. It was decided to set up a high powered committee on Yamuna River Development with Lt. Governor of Delhi and Chief Minister of Delhi as Co-Chairpersons. The committee would have participation of all stake holders and will commission studies on Yamuna river conservation and development.

Pollution of the river being a major concern, it was noted that with execution of the sewerage and drainage plan prepared by the Delhi Jal Board, the water quality in Yamuna would improve significantly. Development of the river front, however, is an exercise which needs to be approached with due care, after proper studies on different aspects.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister, Union Minister of Urban Development, Lt. Governor and Chief Minister of Delhi, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary and other senior officials.
