Cabinet Committee on Prices constituted

The Cabinet Committee on Prices (CCP) has been constituted, with the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh as its Chairman. The members of the Committee will be as follows:

  1. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Defence.

  2. Shri Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

  3. Shri Lalu Prasad, Minister of Railways.

  4. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers and Steel.

  5. Shri P. Chidambaram, Minister of Finance.

  6. Shri Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

  7. Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj.

  8. Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission and Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office shall be Special Invitees.

The functions of the CCP shall include:

  1. To monitor the general price situation in the country and to decide upon the appropriate corrective measures;

  2. To assess the internal availability of all essential and agricultural commodities and to authorise effective steps;

  3. To take decisions on export of all essential and agricultural commodities particularly from FCI stocks keeping in view the price implications for the domestic market;

  4. To consider measures required for making the Public Distribution System more efficient and effective and to determine the prices of articles supplied through the system; and

  5. To review measures regarding enforcement of the Essential Commodities Act and other related statutory provisions.

The CCP held its first meeting here today.
