PM condoles demise of Smt. Sukhbans Kaur

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has condoled the demise of Smt. Sukhbans Kaur, Member of Parliament. In a message he said:

"I am deeply grieved to learn of the sad demise of Smt. Sukhbans Kaur, Member of Parliament.

A well known and prominent personality of our public life, Smt. Sukhbans Kaur had a distinguished record of service as an agriculturalist, social worker, parliamentarian and above all, as an administrator. Her election to the Lok Sabha for five terms is the testimony to her popularity. A veteran parliamentarian, she also had the privilege of serving as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. Her role as a Member of Parliament was marked by her keen participation in the proceedings of both the Houses. I had the good fortune of working with her in the Rajya Sabha and profiting from my association with her. She had the distinction of being a Union Minister and in that capacity, established her credibility as an administrator. In her unfortunate passing away, the country has lost a leader with a long and rich experience in public life and with a commitment to secular values of our Republic.

I pray that the departed soul may rest in peace and convey my heartfelt condolences to all members of the bereaved family and to her numerous friends and associates."
