PM constitutes Coordination Committee on Affirmative Action

The government has initiated wide ranging consultations with a view to exploring the best way to see that the private sector fulfills the aspirations of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe youth. A number of useful suggestions have been put forward by different groups.

With a view of taking the process forward by ensuring a national dialogue leading to a time bound action programme the Prime Minister is constituting a Coordination Committee.

The committee members are

1) Principal Secretary to the PM - Chairman.

2) Secretary, Minitsry of Social Justice and Empowerment

3) Secretary, Dept of Personal & Training

4) Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs

5) Secretary, Dept of Industrial Policy and Promotion. - Convenor.

The chairman may suitably co-opt other members, official as well as unofficial, if considered necessary.

The committee will

(i) Ensure time bound examination of suggestions and action points received from various stake holders.

(ii) Evolve / identify the concerte steps arising out of (i) and their implementation.

(iii) Suggest ways and means of government assistance and support to the implementation process.

The committee will submit an interim report within six months followed by a final report within one year.
