Press Statement from PMO

Reports have been appearing in a section of the media that Shri Jaswant Singh, Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha, has communicated some information pertaining to certain allegations he has made with respect to leakage of information from the Prime Minister's Office in the 1990s. In response to a letter written by Shri Jaswant Singh to the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister has sent the following reply:

Dear Shri Jaswant Singhji,

I have received your letter of 28th July regarding an informant in the PMO in the mid 90s. Simultaneously, I find that a copy of the letter has been published in the latest issue of India Today. The document which you sent is not an original and has no signature or letterhead. The alleged informant is not named nor is there any confirmation that the person was from the PMO. If you have any further information in this regard you may wish to disclose it to the public. I am, however, surprised that the material sent by you was in your possession when you were a member of the Union Council of Ministers and still you did not share it with my predecessor.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

Manmohan Singh
