PM condoles passing away of Anil Biswas

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has condoled the passing away of senior CPI(M) leader, Comrade Anil Biswas. In his condolence letters to CPM General Secretary, Prakash Karat and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that we would all be serving India well if we learnt the appropriate lessons from the life and writings of Comrade Biswas.

The Prime Minister paid rich tributes to the departed leader. "Comrade Biswas was a great son of Bengal, a truly patriotic Indian and a wise leader with a modern outlook who had dedicated his life to the welfare of our people. As a student leader, a journalist and a leader of the Communist movement, he stood tall because of his personal integrity and simplicity. He was deeply committed to taking Bengal forward. He was a keen student of world affairs and of Indian political economy. His many columns and editorials in Ganashakti revealed a modern mind grappling with the dynamics of a fast changing world. In that sense, he was truly a Marxist who believed in learning from reality in order to be able to change it.

I sincerely hope that Comrade Biswas' colleagues and followers will keep his memory alive by dedicating themselves to his forward-looking and progressive agenda of change and reform. We will all be serving Bengal and India well if we learn the appropriate lessons form the life and writings of Comrade Biswas. I know that for both - Bengal and the CPI (M), his loss is irreparable. However, I sincerely hope his good work and progressive ideas will continue to find wider appeal both within the communist movement and outside.

I convey my sincere condolences and profound sadness to the family, friends, comrades and followers of Comrade Biswas", Dr. Manmohan Singh said.
