PM: India committed to closer relations with Singapore

The former Prime Minister of Singapore, and presently Senior Minister,Mr. Goh Chok Tong, met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh here today.The two leaders had a wide ranging discussion on India- Singapore bilateral relations covering economic and strategic issues.

The two leaders reiterated the commitment of both governments to the India- Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement. Dr. Singh assured Mr. Goh that the Government of India will resolve some pending issues pertaining to banking and financial sectors. Dr.Singh also invited Singapore to take keener interest in infrastructure modernization and development in India.

The two leaders also reviewed regional cooperation including the India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and India's participation in the East Asian Summit. Dr.Singh conveyed India's gratitude to Singapore for its constructive role in expanding and deepening India's relations with ASEAN.

The Prime Minister hosted a lunch in honour of Mr. Goh.
