PM greets nation on Guru Nanak's birthday

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak's birthday.

The Prime Minister said that Guru Nanak's message of fraternity and universalism, particularly his emphasis on the creation of a casteless society, acquires a crucial dimension in today's world. Dr. Manmohan Singh said that Guru Nanak stressed that inner purity could be achieved through detachment and he always exhorted his disciples to oppose tyranny and oppression. His teachings blended Hindu and Muslim theology, which gives the message of an underlying unity of all religions, Dr. Singh, added.

The Prime Minister hoped that Guru Nanak's life and teachings would continue to guide the path of humanity for all times to come.
