PM Condemns terrorist at Ayodhya - appeals for calm

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Ayodhya. He has reiterated the Government's determination and resolve to deal firmly with all such acts of terrorism which are a threat to our security and polity. He reaffirmed India's resolve not to allow terrorist elements to succeed in their nefarious designs.

It is fortunate that the attack was foiled and the attackers were killed during the shootout. It is also fortunate that no damage occurred to the physical structures at the site of the incident. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the injured policemen would recover soon.

The Government views the incident as a serious one. All States have been alerted to take adequate precautions for protecting monuments, security installations, religious places, etc. Particular attention has been drawn towards maintaining communal harmony, peace and public order.

The Home Minister has briefed the Prime Minister and the Cabinet about the events. The Prime Minister has spoken to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and discussed the event and asked him to take all necessary measures to maintain communal harmony.

The Prime Minister appeals to all citizens to be calm and requests all political leaders to help in maintaining public peace.
