Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has written to Sania Mirza congratulating her on her performance in the Australian Open Tennis Championship.

The following is the text of the Prime Minister's letter:

"I was delighted to see how skillfully you played a fine game of tennis with a world champion, Serena Williams. You have made millions of us in India happy and proud.

I was also impressed by the confidence you displayed and by the fact that you played not merely to win, but to play a good game. You showed, through your spirit and your talent that true sport is about playing a game well without worrying about the result. I am confident that you will go ahead to win many laurels for yourself and for our country.

I join millions of young Indians you have inspired with your spirit to greet you on a game well played. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours"
