PM to head National Aids control effort

On the request of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has agreed to head the National Council on AIDS - the highest national policy making body in AIDS control effort. This is expected to bring about necessary inter-sectoral co-ordination in the campaign against AIDS making it more effective. The National Common Minimum Programme (CMP) states that the National AIDS control effort would be provided leadership at the highest level. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is also taking steps to revamp the organizational structure at the State and district levels for effective implementation of the AIDS control programme.
