Task Force on National Security presents report to PM

The Task Force set up by Government in July 2011 to review the working of the national security system called on the Prime Minister today and presented their Report. The Task Force was headed by Shri Naresh Chandra, and included retired government servants, former armed forces officers and experts in aspects of national security.

The Task Force was mandated to review existing processes, procedures and practices in the national security system and to suggest measures to strengthen the national security apparatus. Its members had extensive discussions between July 2011 and May 2012 with concerned Ministries and Departments of the Government of India as well as with several State Governments and others concerned. They also called on the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Defence Minister, External Affairs Minister, Home Minister, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and the three Service Chiefs.

The Task Force has made an assessment of the security scenario facing the country and made recommendations to the Government.

The Report of the Task Force is now with Government for its consideration.
