The Prime Minister has condoled the passing away of veteran journalist and Parliamentarian Inder Jit. In a condolence message to Mrs Darshan Inder Jit the Prime Minister recalled the departed leaders contribution to bringing peace to the Darjeeling Hills.

The Prime Minister's condolence message is as follows :

"I am deeply grieved to hear of the passing away of your husband Shri Inder Jit. Shri Inder Jit was a veteran journalist and Parliamentarian and I recall his important contributions on various political and social issues of the day. But I remember Shri Inder Jit more as an old friend with whom I was often able to discuss and debate issues of the day and benefit from his vast experience of public life. He is most remembered for being instrumental in negotiating an accord that brought peace to the Darjeeling Hills in 1988. Shri Inder Jit took keen interest in issues of foreign policy and made notable contributions as part of Indian delegations to the United Nations General Assembly. In passing away, the nation has lost a very senior journalist and political thinker.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the sad demise of Shri Inder Jit. May God give you the strength to bear this irreparable loss."
