PM's assistance to brave Lucknow Woman

The Prime Minister has approved an assistance of Rupees One lakh to Mrs. Kamalapati of Lucknow, who was seriously injured while rescuing her neighbours from their burning house in September 2002.

Three of her neighbours were locked in their house by an errant family member when their house caught fire. Mrs. Kamalapati responded to the neighbour's cry for help and braving the fire, she broke down the front door and rescued those trapped in the burning house. She sustained serious burn injuries and was hospitalised for nearly six months.

The Prime Minister has granted the assistance as a special case in recognition of her courage and selfless spirit, and to help her meet the financial burden of her medical care.
