An all-party delegation of Members of Parliament from Maharashtra, led by the Chief Minister, met the Prime Minister and apprised him of the losses incurred by farmers in various regions in the State, on account of unprecedented and unseasonal rains recently, resulting in extensive damage to crops. The delegation requested for suitable assistance to farmers to help them tide over the difficulties being faced by them.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the interests of farmers are uppermost and that all necessary steps will be taken by the Government of India to assist the State Government in helping the farmers. Prime Minister announced advance release of Central assistance, to the tune of Rs. 400 crore, to the State Government for helping meet immediate requirements. Requirement of further assistance will be considered in light of the assessment made by an inter-Ministerial Central team, after visiting the State. He also assured the delegation that Central Ministries will be asked to take necessary action on the issues raised by the delegation expeditiously.
