Every year we celebrate Childrens Day on 14 November, the birthday of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Nehru had great love and affection for children and his commitment to their care was deep and abiding. Therefore, it is befitting that we rededicate ourselves to the cause of children on the birthday of Pandit Nehru.
The forty crore children in our country are our most valuable asset. In their well-being, lies the future of our country. It is a matter of pride for us that our children have been excelling in a diverse range of fields. We need to encourage them to aspire for and achieve even higher goals. I am happy that the Ministry of Women and Child Development honours children for exceptional achievements on the occasion of Childrens Day. I am sure that this serves as an inspiration to other children to strive for excellence.
On Childrens Day, the Ministry also honours organizations and individuals who have done outstanding work for the well-being of children. This is a token of our appreciation of the very important contribution that they have made to the processes of nation building.
On the occasion of Childrens Day, I extend my love, affection and blessings to our children and my best wishes to all those who are working for their care, growth and development.
