PM condoles the passing away of former Tripura Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar

The Prime Minister has condoled the passing away of the former Chief Minister of Tripura and Senior Congress leader Shri Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar. In his condolence message Dr. Manmohan Singh recalled Shri Majumdar's contribution of the development of the state.

The text of the Prime Minister's condolence message is as follows:

"I am deeply grieved to learn of the passing away of Shri Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar.

Shri Majumdar was a prominent leader of Tripura. As Chief Minister for four years, from 1988 to 1992, he made a distinctive contribution to the development of the state. He was the leader of the opposition in the Assembly for two years from 1986 and was also the Pradesh Congress President for two years. He was a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly. Shri Majumdar set very high standards for political debate in the state and actively worked to promote good governance.

In his death the country has lost a well known personality whose contribution to public life, particularly in the North Eastern parts of the country, would be long remembered.

On this sad occasion, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the members of his bereaved family and to all those who followed him and respected him as their friend and leader."
