Prime Minister condoles demise of Shri Heera Lal Devpura

"I am deeply grieved to know of the sad demise of Shri Heera Lal Devpura, former Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

A veteran Congress leader and a prominent public figure, Shri Devpura had a long record of service in the Congress party and occupied important positions as Cabinet Minister for several decades. A seven-time member of the State Assembly, Shri Devpura distinguished himself by his service and through his contributions to the proceedings of the House. His tenure as the Chairman of the State Finance Commission marked a sincere effort for the devolution of funds to Panchayati Raj Institutions for which the State of Rajasthan was seen as a role model and a trend setter. He reached the high point of his life in public service when he became Chief Minister of Rajasthan in 1985 and left his impress in many areas of administration. In his death, the State of Rajasthan has lost an important leader and a dedicated personality whose contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

On this occasion, I extend my heart-felt condolences to the members of the bereaved family, his wide circle of friends, admirers and associates and pray for peace for the departed soul".
