PM condoles death of Shri Shyam Lal

I received with profound sadness the news of the passing away of Shri Shyam Lal. Shri Shyam Lal was a great editor, a thoughtful writer and a voice of reason, liberal values and patriotism. He was a media icon of my generation. Generations of his readers looked forward to reading his columns for his wit and wisdom and his erudition. I hope his inspiring example will continue to guide Indian journalism.

I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and his innumerable readers.
