Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of Dr. Pratap Chandra Chunder here today.

Following is the text of the Prime Minister's condolence message:

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Dr Pratap Chandra Chunder, an eminent educationist, legislator, lawyer and author earlier today. He was a distinguished member of the Union Cabinet in charge of Education and Social Welfare in the late 1970s, and served the State of West Bengal as a legislator and minister in the 1960s. Dr. Chunder was a multi-faceted personality with wide-ranging intellectual interests. He will be remembered both for his contribution as a legal luminary and as an educationist.

I convey my sincere condolences to members of his family and his numerous friends and admirers."
