PM reviews programmes taken up under the NCMP

The Prime Minister reviewed the implementation of various programmes taken up under the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) at a meeting here today.

Among the issues discussed were: implementation of the recommendations of the Radhakrishna Committee on agricultural indebtedness, Vaidyanathan Committee Report on cooperative sector and the Sachar Committee Report on empowerment of Minorities.

The Prime Minister reviewed implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), revamping of Public Distribution System, Implementation of Social Security Initiatives of the Government like old age pension, health insurance schemes for disabled persons. The Prime Minister also reviewed implementation of initiatives in education sector including announcements made in his Independence Day address.

The Prime Minister expressed concern with the slow progress of infrastructure projects and has directed that a meeting of the Committee on Infrastructure be called to review progress in power, roads, ports, telecom and railway sectors.
