Bad weather forces PM to cut short Orissa visit
The heavy rainfall along the Orissa coast between Bhubaneshwar and Vishakapatnam has forced Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to cancel his visit to the KBK region of Orissa. The PM's helicopters could not leave Bhubaneshwar due to bad weather. An altered plan for the PM to fly to Vizag and go from there by helicopter to Koraput had to also be called off after air force reported bad landing conditions at Koraput.
The Prime Minister is on a 2-day visit to the State. On 28th August he dedicated the Talcher thermal power station to the nation and announced the setting up of a National Institute of Science Education and Research in Bhubaneshwar. On 29th August he was scheduled to visit Bolangir and Koraput districts of Orissa to study the problem of poverty and rural development. He was scheduled to interact with representatives of villagers, non-government organizations and district authorities.
The Prime Minister left Bhubaneshwar for New Delhi after his district tour was cancelled.
