PM condoles death of Smt. Surinder Kaur
The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of eminent Punjabi Singer Smt. Surinder Kaur. In his condolence message, Dr. Singh said, "The sudden demise of Smt. Surinder Kaur, the nightingale of Punjab, is a grievous loss not only for India, but also for lovers of Punjabi folk music all over the world. She was a legend in Punjabi folk music and popular music and a trend-setter in Punjabi melody. Her music exhibited her commitment to basic human values. An artist with progressive ideas and a literary mind, she lived a very simple life. Punjabi culture has suffered a great loss, that is indeed difficult to fill. I send my condolence to her family, and to admirers of her musical gift. I hope that her immortal voice will motivate other artists to practice the rich Punjabi folk music tradition."
