J&K Chief Minister meets Prime Minister

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Mufti Mohammed Sayeed met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to apprise him about the State's financial situation and seek Central Government's financial assistance. Shri Sayeed made a detailed presentation on the developmental progress in the State and the financial position of the State government and the reforms being proposed in fiscal management. Shri Sayeed sought additional financial assistance from the Centre for the State's power sector.

The Prime Minister has asked the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, to examine the requests of the State government and extend whatever support was possible.

Dr. Manmohan Singh told Shri Sayeed that he was convinced that Jammu and Kashmir needs special attention and special assistance. Dr. Singh said, "We will do whatever we can to aid the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir."
