The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has condoled the demise of noted Punjabi writer, Ms. Amrita Pritam.

In a message, the Prime Minister said that Amrita Pritam displayed a rare sensitivity and a remarkable grasp of the burning social issues of the day. Dr. Manmohan Singh recalled that Amrita Pritam came across as a defiant rebel through her works.

Her absence will be sorely felt by the vast legion of her admirers in the country. Her demise has left behind a void that shall be hard to fill, the Prime Minister added.
