Tamil Nadu UPA leaders meets PM on Cauvery
The Prime Minister, while listening to all the points made by the leaders of all the parties, expressed sympathy with the situation of the farmers of the Cauvery basin, particularly in view of the distress situation that they have been passing through in the last few years. The distress was more due to natural causes , particularly the poor rainfall in the area in the last few years leading to consequent reduction inflows in the Cauvery.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to reach a suitable settlement acceptable to all and the need to share distress equitably so that no specific region suffers excessively. He expressed the hope that the situation would improve and the flow into Mettur would increase.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that this matter is of utmost priority for him and he would be discussing it with the concerned governments, including the Government of Karnataka.
